Meet Lynn Dunn

Lynn Dunn, owner of Academic Success and creator of the Student Success 101 program discovered while teaching 7th grade science that students lacked the fundamental skills which enabled them to become great students. "While I found that students generally understood the content, they didn't understand how to take notes or the importance of organization and how these student skills impact student performance. Students are usually not taught these skills in the classroom; however, these are the skills which separate the excellent students from the good students. Parents may assume that students learn these skills, however, more likely than not, students are learning few to none of these skills inside the school environment. Having good student skills such as note taking, organization and time management are essential for a student to work to their potential."

Based on her years of extensive training and practice in AVID, curriculum development, Assessment Writing, Title 1 Tutoring and Extended Core Instruction with Proficiency Learning Model, Lynn created this program to instruct children on 7 skills that she feels are core to being a Successful Student. These strategies are skills that great students employed on a regular basis with great academic outcomes.

"Students that learn these skills can perform better and more efficiently with their academics. Working better gives students more self-confidence and better grades with less time spent on studying because they are managing their time better." The 7 skills students learn in the Student Success 101 program are: Note taking, Time Management, Organization, Communication, Study & Test Skills and Goal Setting.
